WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic is a health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health. There is an emphasis on manual techniques, including joint adjustment and/or manipulation with a particular focus on subluxations [misalignments]. (World Health Organization, 2005)

HOW DO JOINTS GET MISALIGNED?

The founder of chiropractic suggested that trauma, toxins, and stress are the underlying causes of subluxations. These causative factors are interrelated. For example, stress can cause muscles to become excessively tight and to pull on the bones that they are connected to. Over time, the joints are pulled out of alignment, causing loss of flexibility, pain, or pinched nerves. These, in turn, can cause more muscle tension, causing a vicious circle.

WON'T THIS PAIN GO AWAY BY ITSELF?

Sometimes, but that does not mean the underlying problem is gone. Because the misalignment has not been corrected, the symptoms will often return at a later time and may be even worse than they were before.

WHAT ABOUT MEDICATION?

Most medications just dull the sensation of pain without correcting its source. The problem remains in the joints and muscles, and the symptoms return when the medication wears off. In addition, one's tolerance for pain medications often increases, requiring increased dosage over time.

DOES IT HURT?

Not at all. In fact, most people report an immediate sense of relief after the first session. By combining accurate deep tissue therapy with chiropractic, tension is reduced in both the muscles and the joints, causing an experience of deep relaxation and well-being. Chiropractic adjustments are comfortable and safe for the whole family.

I'M NOT IN PAIN NOW. CAN CHIROPRACTIC HELP ME?

Yes. Since almost everyone has tight muscles and some degree of joint misalignment, even people without any significant pain can experience a sense of wellness and rejuvenation after a chiropractic session. Periodic chiropractic visits are a good way to prevent more serious misalignments from occurring.

HOW COSTLY IS CHIROPRACTIC?

It's inexpensive compared to other treatments. Most insurance plans cover chiropractic care. There will be no unexpected additional costs because chiropractic is applied in the course of a consistent treatment plan.

DO I HAVE TO KEEP GOING?

That's always up to you. People who have experienced the regenerative effect of chiropractic will often return for help in the future because they feel better and they understand the health benefits. Others will be satisfied with short-term rehabilitation for one issue, ceasing treatment when it's resolved.
